Summer is coming to an end as the leaves are changing color and the weather is getting colder. You’ve had a great time enjoying your pool, and now it’s time to prepare it for fall. There are a few things that you need to do to make sure that your pool is in tip-top shape for next summer. The following includes a few things that you need to consider:
1. Clean your pool
Before you start doing anything, make sure that your pool is cleaned thoroughly. If you close your pool while dirty, it will be harder to prepare when the weather starts to get warmer. You might find nasty surprises, such as algae and bacteria. Don’t forget to empty the skimmer box and check all filters.
2. Check your water’s pH level
Make sure that your water has the correct pH level. You can use pH test strips, an electronic tester, or pH test kits to do this. It is best if the water displays a pH level between 7.4 and 7.6.
3. Shock your water
When you shock your water, you are helping to get rid of any algae and/or bacteria that might be in the water. By adding an extra dose of chlorine you are making sure that your water is as clean as possible before it is covered.
4. Cover your pool
Once you have cleaned, checked, and shocked the water, you can now cover your pool. If you cover your pool, you can prevent it from many things including: the pool getting dirty, bacteria and algae build-up, and most importantly any accidents.
