Owning a swimming pool is a great perk, especially in the hot summer months, but it can take a lot of work to maintain. We’re no stranger to work at Aqua Rec’s Fireside Hearth N’ Home, where our purpose is to give you the unique pool you deserve.
But even your dream pool needs to be properly maintained to keep it looking attractive and luxurious. Follow the swimming pool maintenance tips below and perform them regularly, and you will have a swimming pool that will stay beautiful and inviting all summer long.
Skim and Scrub
Skim the surface of your pool daily to remove unwanted debris and bugs. In addition, take time to scrub the sides of the pool at least once every couple of weeks to prevent algae from building up.
Don’t Forget the Filter
Check your filter weekly. This will always give you a good idea of how much dirt is circulating through your pool.
Vacuum
Invest in an underwater pool vacuum. Turn it on and let it run every so often. It’ll do its job and pick up dirt and debris that gather at the bottom of the pool, which might be difficult to clean otherwise.
Balance those Chemicals
Chlorine levels are extremely important for pools. One of the most basic and important rules of swimming pool maintenance is to make sure your chlorine levels aren’t too high or too low. Too high and you might cause damage to your skin; too low and you’ll be inviting all sorts of dirt and bacteria to thrive in your pool.
The Baking Soda and Tennis Ball Tricks
Baking soda can be used to increase the alkalinity of your pool and maintain proper pH levels. And if you’re worried about how much sunscreen or suntan lotion might be floating around in your pool, toss a tennis ball in and let it sit for a while. It’ll absorb a lot of those stray chemicals.
