Fantastic food and great company can form the backbone of many wonderful memories. Nothing quite epitomizes the summer like a cookout where you and your loved ones can bond over a good meal while soaking up the summer sun.
Here are a few summer BBQ tips to help make sure that your cookout is a hit!
Prep in Advance
Prepping in advance is a simple BBQ tip that will allow you to enjoy your summer! There’s no need to slave away in your kitchen the entire day before a cookout. You can prepare most of your meals the night before, whether it be chopping vegetables, baking desserts, or assembling side dishes. It’s also recommended that you make sure you have enough propane or charcoal so you don’t find yourself in a crisis later.
Marinating meat the night before is also highly recommended. While not absolutely necessary, allowing your meat to marinate overnight in your fridge will allow the meat to absorb a lot more flavor your guests will appreciate.
Make It a Potluck
There’s no shame in asking people to bring something like a drink or a side dish to your BBQ. People generally love being able to contribute to a meal. In fact, some people might even expect you to ask!
Allowing your guests to bring food or drink items can take a lot of the burden off your shoulders and allows you to focus on providing a stellar main course! If you don’t want duplicate dishes at your cookout, it may be a good idea to assign each guest a dish before they come.
Keep It Simple!
This is probably the most important part of our summer BBQ tips that we can offer. While elaborate dishes can be fun to make and allow you to show off your cooking skills, a cookout can easily be ruined by over-complicating matters.
You don’t have to cook like a Michelin star chef and provide a 3-course meal to have a great BBQ. A successful cookout is one that allows everyone to interact with one another. There is no shame in serving hamburgers and hotdogs with some mac ‘n’ cheese and potato salad on the side.
The important thing to remember is that the purpose of a cookout is to have a great time. So don’t complicate things more than they have to be!
