Make Your Stovetop Gleam with This Handy Guide on How to Clean Stove Burners

April 22, 2019 by Admin Leave a Comment

Clean Stove Burners

Your stovetop is probably the ultimate workhorse of your kitchen. You use this space on a daily basis to fry up eggs, boil water, and make dinner. It’s no wonder the stove burners quickly become greasy and filled with bits of charred food.

And while dirty burners are certainly unsightly, they also cause damage to your appliance if left too long. The more buildup, the more likely the issue can also become a fire hazard. So take some time to clean those stubborn stove burners today with our helpful guide on how to clean stove burners until they gleam like new. So how do you clean stove burners?

1. Prepare the Area

Before you get going with your deep cleaning, you’ll want to make sure the surface is in the right conditions. Make sure the stovetop is completely cooled after cooking, then remove the grates if you have a gas range or the coils of an electric range. Check your appliance manual if you’re not sure how to do this. You don’t want to cause damage! Scrub the grates or coils off with a dishcloth before tackling the burners.

2. Gather Supplies

Next, you’ll want to get your supplies ready. Luckily, all it takes is common household supplies you probably already have around. Here’s what you need to gather:

  • Dishwashing soap
  • Kitchen sponge
  • Baking soda
  • Tough scouring pad
  • Ammonia
  • Dishcloth

3. Scrub the Burners

Use warm water and dishwashing soap to make your initial cleaning solution. Combine the two ingredients in a bowl and then use a cloth or sponge to scrub the burners. After this step, you’ll likely need to do a second round with the baking soda, a more powerful cleaning agent.

To do this, mix a handful of baking soda with water to form a paste. Apply the paste to your burners and let it sit for 20-30 minutes before you scrub it off. If your grates need some extra attention, you can use the ammonia to soak them in a plastic bag overnight.
